Hotel lobby and reception area
HOTEL & HOSPITALITY SCENT SERVICES

The first thing a guest notices is the thing they remember longest.

The hotel lobby is one of the property’s most important shared spaces, shaping the arrival experience and often serving as a recurring touchpoint throughout a guest’s stay. Scent is how that room stops being a lobby and starts being your property.

WHERE SCENT WORKS

One property, one impression, from the door to the last floor.

From arrival and reception to wellness, dining, meetings, and guest-floor circulation, a deliberate program keeps the property experience coherent without making every zone identical. Back-of-house, loading, and waste areas are a separate job: commercial odor control, combined with beautiful fragrance.

SHARED SPACES - WHERE PEOPLE CONNECT

Where guests gather, and why it matters.

A controlled doctoral study at UNLV tested one variable with ambient scent present or absent and found that people in the scented room interacted with each other more.

That result does not prove a revenue effect or guarantee how any lobby, bar, or lounge will perform. It does suggest that atmosphere can shape how a shared room is experienced.

HOW A HOTEL PROGRAM IS BUILT

Follow the guest, not the floor plan.

A hotel is scented in the order a guest moves through it. Each stop gets its own decision about fragrance, intensity, and where fragrance belongs.

Arrival and lobby first. The porte-cochère, entry vestibule, lobby, and reception are where the signature scent is first established. Because these spaces shape the arrival experience, they are typically the first zones we install and tune.

Corridors and elevator landings run lower. Guests pass through these spaces several times a day. A light, consistent presence keeps the property coherent from the door to the room without becoming something a guest notices on every trip.

Amenities each get their own setting. Spa and wellness areas lean restorative and quiet. The fitness room is scented for airflow and sweat first, then for ambiance. Lounges and bars carry a lower setting so fragrance stays in the background rather than competing with food and beverage. Meeting and event space is usually neutral or lightly scented so it can be dressed for any client.

Guest rooms are a separate choice. We typically focus the signature scent on public and circulation spaces and leave guest rooms neutral unless room scenting is specifically requested. Room solutions can always be added later.

Delivery matched to the building. Large lobbies and atria can be scented through the HVAC system or with standalone diffusers. Smaller lobbies, spas, lounges, and older properties are often well suited to standalone cold-air diffusers. Every zone has its own control, so a setting can be lowered for an event or turned off for a season without affecting the rest of the property. Back-of-house areas, loading docks, and waste rooms are handled with an odor-control strategy appropriate to the space. How we handle properties with uneven traffic.

Hotel groups and management companies. A signature scent is a brand standard, so it is documented like one: the fragrance, the intensity per zone type, and the equipment by building type. We pilot at one property, write that standard, and then open each additional property to the same fragrance direction with settings tuned for its own lobby size, ceiling height, and airflow.

HOTEL & HOSPITALITY SCENT FAQS

Common questions from hospitality teams.

How does scent marketing work in a hotel?

A diffuser distributes a chosen fragrance at a controlled level in selected shared spaces. Placement, equipment, and intensity are planned around the property layout and guest flow.

Should guest rooms be scented, or only common areas?

Many properties begin with arrival and shared spaces such as the lobby, corridors, spa, or lounge. Guest-room scenting is a separate choice and should be considered against the property’s operating standards.

Can different areas of the property have different fragrances?

Yes. Distinct zones can use different fragrances when there is a clear reason, though a disciplined scent plan helps the property feel coherent rather than fragmented.

How much does hotel scenting cost?

Cost varies with the number and size of scent zones, equipment, fragrance consumption, and service plan. We recommend a program after reviewing the property.

Can we trial it in the lobby before committing?

Yes. A free seven-day trial allows the team to experience the selected lobby program before making a longer-term decision.
